Dedry Jones presented "The Experience with Lalah Hathaway" to a packed audience at the DuSable Museum in Chicago. In case you didn't know, Lalah Hathaway is the daughter of legendary soul singer Donny Hathaway. Lalah is a classically trained vocalist, who released her debut, self-titled album in 1990...the album's first single was "Heaven Knows". Fast forward to 2015, LIVE is Lalah's 7th cd, but first live cd. She called it a "greatest hits cd, but live"! During "The Experience...", some of the highlights Lalah spoke about were her early years growing up in the Chicago music scene, and growing up with a famous father and the lessons learned from him.
A special surprise during "The Experience..." was singer Sandra St. Victor. Sandra is best known as former lead singer of the group, The Family Stand, whose big hit song "Ghetto Heaven" ruled the record charts. Sandra spoke of the upcoming "Daughters Of Soul" documentary and concert tour. "Daughters Of Soul" consists of Lalah Hathaway, daughter of Donny Hathaway; Syleena Johnson, daughter of Syl Johnson; Indira Khan, daughter of Chaka Khan; Lisa Simone, daughter of Nina Simone; Sylvette Stone, daughter of Sly Stone & Cynthia Robinson of The Family Stone and Kori Withers, daughter of Bill Withers. "This one has been a loooong time coming", said Sandra. "So after a decade of talking about a "Daughters Of Soul" documentary, we are finally in a great position to bring it to light. In cooperation with PledgeMusic, we are excited to announce our next phase: a "Daughters Of Soul" Tour, soundtrack and documentary"!
After her interview with host Dedry Jones, Lalah took to the stage to perform "Mirror", which was a huge crowd favorite. She also sang "Happy Birthday" to a few people who were celebrating birthdays that day. Lalah then signed copied of her LIVE cd and chatted with fans who wanted to stick around to meet her. Lalah also took a few minutes to give friendly advice to teenagers from the Talented Artists Foundation, spearheaded by Amadeus Reams.
