25th Anniversary

Will Downing helped kick off The Music Experience's 25th Year Anniversary celebration with an 8-song performance at the DuSable Museum in Chicago. After an interview with host Dedry Jones, Will took to the stage to perform some of his classics, as well as new songs from his new cd, EUPHORIA. The Music Experience is an actual brick and mortar store in Chicago where you can stop by, listen to music, relax with a magazine or just talk about the music you love (or don't love). The Music Experience is currently celebrating its 25th ANNIVERSARY year as an independent urban retailer.

This award winning retail outlet headed by Dedry Jones has been featured in Billboard Magazine, Urban Network Magazine, Jet Magazine, The Network Magazine, Business '96, Rolling Out Magazine, AFIM Magazine, The Chicago Sun Times, The Chicago Defender, The Chicago Tribune as well as other publications.

The Music Experience's noted signature event is "The Experience...", which celebrated its 10th Anniversary in August of 2012. To date, there have been 77 Experiences featuring everyone from Will Downing to Ashford and Simpson to Common to Natalie Cole to Patti Labelle to Maxwell to Ledisi to Kirk Franklin to Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Buddy Guy to the iconic group, Earth Wind and Fire and so many more. As stated by Anthony Ellis, VP of Marketing, Sony Music Distribution, "Professionally, (Jones) really has set a standard. Not only do you have a connection to the community, but you're also keeping the urban platform relevant," Ellis says.

Through the years, retailer Dedry Jones has been awarded the first Retailer Award from Frontier Marketing, the first Horizon Award from WEA Distribution for future legends in the retail industry, CUMA's Retailer Award, Urban Network's Retailer of The Year Award and Urban Network's first Most Innovative Retailer in the USA Award. The Music Experience was also nominated for 2007's NARM Small Division of the Year Award.

From heading a national retail coalition of stores to mentoring teens from the Artist Development Group from the After School Matters Program in Chicago as well as students from Perspective's Charter School to having an online radio show and an online magazine, Dedry Jones and The Music Experience has covered many bases in the music industry and in the community. Bob Callahan, Label Service Midwest Rep for the Warner Music Group sums it up when he says,"I look forward to working with Dedry and The Music Experience for many more years and cannot wait to see what the future holds! The world and community need more Dedry Jones's out there"!
