Chicago Bears vs. Washington Redskins at Soldier Field in Chicago...boy, what a game! Everything seemed really fine during the pre-game warm ups as Chicago Bears kicker Robbie Gould was kicking his butt off. But little did I know, this moment would come to haunt him later on. It was roughly 10am as rain was scheduled to fall on this day around 12 noon(game start time), but instead we had lots of gray skies and a mild wind coming off the lakefront. Pre-game warm ups was fun...watching the playing going through various exercises, chatting with their teammates and some of the Redskins players...fans getting the opportunity to come onto the field to get a closer look during the team practices. They took photos and got autographs from some of the players. While walking the sidelines, I spotted former Bears players Richard Dent and Dan Hampton, and got them to pose for me. After the players left the field, ground crew members began setting up the field for player introductions. Of course the Redskins were booed as they took the field, but the many Redskins fans in the crowd cheered loudly as they could so their voices could be heard rooting for their team. Next up were the Chicago Bears...
Fans began to scream and cheer as heavy smoke flowed from the mouth of the huge plastic bear at the front of the Bears tunnel. Certain players were introduced singly, but most of them came out grouped...wide receivers, defensive players, offensive linemen, etc. The loudest cheers came as quarterback Jay Cutler ran through the smoke. During the game, both teams provided lots of action on both offense and defense, but the Redskins scored first on a passing touchdown to tight end Jordan Reed. The Bears trailed for most of the game, but the 4th quarter proved to be very crucial. After closing in on the score with touchdowns from Matt Forte and Alshon Jeffrey, kicker Robbie Gould had the chance to tie the game and possibly send it into overtime. This was a 50-yard field goal, normally a "chip shot" for Gould. But the kick went wide right...the crowd was stunned...once again. In the previous week, Gould missed a field goal in overtime that would have given the Bears the win. After Robbie Gould missed the field goal, and the Redskins ran out the clock, I couldn't help but to focus on him after that disaster. As the players left the field you could see the anger on their faces, and of course the fans booed Robbie Gould loudly as he walked off the field through the tunnel...Redskins 24.Bears 21
